June 10th 2016
Today, the 10th of June, PAN Europe sent an open letter concerning the phase-out of the pesticide Glyphosate to the Health and Food Safety Commissioner Andriukaitis, Commission President Juncker and the Ambassadors of Member States.
31 signatories of European environmental, health, trade union, consumer protection and medical organisations – called to stop any further prolongation of the authorization of Glyphosate for the following reasons: the BfR and EFSA assessment of Glyphosate is grossly flawed, Glyphosate does qualifiy as dangerous to human health and therefore cannot legally be authorised and, finally, further use of Glyphosate would pose an unacceptable health threat to Europeans.
We strongly call on the Commission and on Member States to refuse the renewal or extension of the European licence for Glyphosate after June 30th 2016.

Expert opinion proves systematic misinterpretation of glyphosate studies
The Munich Environmental Institute (Umweltinstitut München) and Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Germany join PAN Europe and 5 EU environmental organisations in their legal proceedings against those responsible for the assessment of glyphosate in Europe[1] (Monsanto, the German government institute - BfR - and the European Food Safety Authority - EFSA).
EU environmental organizations, in an initiative taken by Global 2000 Austria, have filed new evidence to the attention of the state attorney in Berlin today showing that the institutions responsible for such products' licence renewal misinterpreted research studies during the assessment procedure in order to conceal the carcinogenic risks associated with glyphosate and facilitate its re-approval.
